Benjamin Rost studied Directing at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and graduated in 2020. His films have been screened at various international festivals like Dok Leipzig, Dok.Fest München, Camerimage a.m. He earned a scholarship of ‘Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes’ as well as the ‘Young Art and New Paths’ scholarship from the State of Bavaria. Between 2017 and 2019, he lived in Rwanda and South Africa to support the launch of the Youth TV Channel ‘Iwacu’ for the German Development Organisation (GIZ) and to shoot his graduation film, A Portrait on the Search for Happiness, supported by ARD / SWR and MfG, which is available on Amazon Prime. With his debut, Harraga – Those Who Burn Their Lives he participated at Documentary Campus. Since then, Benjamin has been a member of ACAN (Arab Cultures and Arts Network). Furthermore, he worked as director for ARD / BR and others for more than 15 years and delivered workshops for Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, FreeSZFE Budapest and others. In cooperation with the Goethe-Institut, he has launched two mentoring programs, e.g. ‘Pitch_It@Berlinale’ and the animation film workshop ‘FILM IT’ for refugee children from Ukraine.
